The hair is very soft with no strange smell. I have had it installed for almost a month mostly in a messy bun and there is virtually no shedding and the hair didn't rat up when I took it down. The low star rating is due to the thinness of the strands. If you are only adding to make your hair a little thicker than you will be ok. I however was adding for length and thickness due to hairloss. I would need another 4 packs in order to achieve a true full lengthy look. I would order again, but with the understanding that it take a few packs to get was I was looking for.
