No Longer Just a 'Nice to Have'
A number of years ago, we built a house and incorporated a regular stairway to our attic. Great idea, but the older I got, the more I hated hauling items up and down from the attic. So when we relocated and decided to build again, I began researching variations of what I knew as a 'dumb waiter'. Every article kept taking me to the Versa Lift. Decided then and there, that this was going to be incorporated into our new house. Now after 6 months since we moved in, I can honestly say this is one of the absolute best items we included. And it's no longer a 'nice to have' feature, it's become a necessity.<br /><br />During the build, most of the subs knew about our 'freight elevator', and during an open house, they all had to see it in action. Most of them could have cared less about the home's other features, they just wanted to see it work, and they were very impressed.<br /><br />My only recommendation to anyone considering one, I'd go with the larger unit. The extra volume capacity is well worth any pricing difference. My husband wants to take it with us if we ever move!
We decided to buy this after struggling to get our Christmas decorations down from the attic this year. It took us almost an hour to get everything down (one box at a time w/ two people on the attic ladder - very dangerous!). It took my husband about 30 minutes to put everything back (by himself)...and you know that putting things UP in the attic usually takes much longer than getting them DOWN. We had a very good handyman who has done work for us in the past install our unit. It took him about 6 hours to install and wire the unit. It was a one-man job. I don't know that I would have wanted my husband to install the unit. While he's not inexperienced at home improvement projects, this job needs someone who takes the time to make sure holes are cut properly, structure is re-braced as needed, and everything is plumb and square. Plus, there is a little electrical installation for the power supply. Unless you're a very talented, meticulous novice home improvement guru, hire a professional installer.
I love this product
I love this product. It makes the process of getting items into/out of the attic so easy. Works like a champ! Solid construction. I'd definitely recommend this product.
