Common Core links in every direction despite the steep price.
An awesome book about adventure and friendship. It is dated in its treatment of girls but just enough to open good classroom discussions. There are also some good plot turns that raise opportunities to talk about safety with adults. The setting will be familiar to many students (an old house in a new neighborhood) and there is a lot about the value of imaginative active play, building, and ship knowledge. My class has enjoyed drawing lessons about ships and coloring the liner art blown up. The cost is tragic but you and your kids will treasure this book. Be on the lookout for Captain Ghost (My kids also enjoyed watching the movie The Ghost and Mrs. Muir after reading this book--This would also make a great movie or classroom play. Lots of Common-Core links in every direction.
