Smells great, works better

I purchased my first bottle of Castle Forbes Lime Oil Aftershave Balm in October of 2011, and I am just now replacing it with a new one. Yes, this stuff is a little pricey, but it is well worth the price to me. This balm comes packaged in a very nice box, and inside you will find the actual bottle. It is a heavy, solid bottle, with a nice cap, and it looks very attractive sitting on your counter or in your medicine cabinet. The first thing you will probably notice when using it is the delicious lime smell. It smells wonderful, but is not overpowering once on your skin. It is a fresh, light scent that I enjoy all year. The balm itself is very high quality, and makes my skin feel great after even the closest straight razor or double edge shave. In the past, I used several different "sensitive skin" aftershave balms from all the big names you find in chain drug stores, and non of them work as well as the Castle Forbes. This balm works so much better that I can actually use less than the big brands, and my skin still feels more moisturized and less irritated. While a bottle of the competitors balms would last me a month, maybe two tops, the Castle Forbes has lasted me 9 months as of now, and I still have about a month's worth left in the bottle! After using this, I have no redness, no irritation, and no razor burn. It leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized, without being greasy. If you apply too much, it can make your face feel "sticky" for a while after, but that just means you applied more than you need. With a product as high quality as this, less is more! Overall, yes it is expensive, but you can use much less than competitor's offerings, it smells great, it feels great, and most importantly, it works!!

I like it because the smell doesn't linger. After about 30 minutes after use it's not a strong smell at all. I switched from Jack Black to this because I don't like strong smells.

Smells great going on...

Feels good on your face after you shave and it smells awesome. It smells like fresh lime zest going on but that quiets down pretty quickly and later in the morning you might get a tiny whiff. A lot of people includung me think this is one of the best available.

Expensive, but excellent product and fantastic smell

This aftershave is fairly expensive, but it should last you quite a while depending on how often you shave. I only have to shave about once a week and my previous bottle lasted me almost 4 years. Other's mileage may vary. I have extremely sensitive skin so finding both a shave cream and an aftershave that didn't have me breaking out in a rash was a very long and annoying process. This does the trick and then some. I've never once had a problem after using Castle Forbes shave gel or aftershave. I love the lime smell as well and I've gotten multiple comments from women about how they like it (don't tell my wife)

I love this stuff!

This balm has an amazing smell. I'd describe it as a sugary or zesty pungent lime aroma, like lime Skittles or Sprite. Application after shaving feels great on the skin. It almost tingles slightly. Best of all, it makes your skin feel extremely smooth and moist without being sticky, as others have mentioned. I would recommend this product to a friend.

I'm rewriting my review...I was wrong.

I'm rewriting my previous review (listed at end) because when I'm wrong, I admit it. I've come back to Castle Forbes because I learned that there is no product that provides the quality and product life comparable to Castle Forbes (sorry Proraso). Here's what I learned: The texture, and this is where I went wrong in my last review, is not to be used (slathered) like other products. This is a wonderful balm that I believe is best used sparingly and it will both out perform in quality and last for months past any other balm experience. "Sparingly", to me, is a small (i.e. size of a dime - or less) amount applied with damp/wet hands. The product delivers a slick and fragrant after shaving experience that I highly recommend. Many things can go wrong in a shave (i.e. quality of cream, sharpness of blade, aggressiveness of razor, etc.) but the last step of the shave, the closing act, is the application of the balm which will tell you all you need to know and remember about your shave before you tackle the rest of the day. I've learned that Castle Forbes aftershave balm delivers time and again. No pain or burn. No sticky slather with overwhelming or lingering scent. Just quality and value - well worth the price and experience - you'll see. Original Review: I'm a great fan of the Castle Forbes shaving cream - but - while I like the strong lime scent upon application, and that it does not linger more than a few minutes after application, I can't justify the price vs. value on this one. The balm is a little heavy (almost sticky) on application. In the end, as much as I like Castle Forbes, for aftershave balm I will stick to Proraso - it's smoother, lighter, and a fraction of the cost of Castle Forbes for this product.
