I have naturally curly, kinky hair. I have seen these hair sponges in plenty of YouTube hair tutorials. I thought that this would be a nice tool to have for the summer when I am able to rock my fro a bit more. The way this sponge works is that you lightly press it onto damp hair and move the sponge in small circles all around your hair. The end result is a bunch of neat little twists all over your head. It's really cute.<br /><br />This package arrived on time. I had a bit of trouble opening the package, but that's okay. The sponge itself is black, and has a topper that is a bit stiffer and is blue. The blue part of the sponge goes in your hand and the black part of the sponge goes towards your hair. There are small-medium sized holes in the sponge. These holes help to make the twists in the hair as the sponge is moved around the head. I was excited to try this sponge, but was a bit disappointed. I think my natural hair is too long for it to work like I wanted it too. I have armpit length hair and it is difficult to get my hair to stand on end. I tried this sponge on my brother, who has a much shorter fro, and it worked for him. He was able to get a lot of definition in his hair. I think that this product works very well on shorter natural hair rather than long hair. I will give it another try soon. Heโs growing his hair out, not to get โdreadsโ per se, because thatโs not really an acceptable appearance for a medical school student, but he just wants his curls to be โmore apparentโ as he states. Iโve been stressing over my hair, and needed a way to โcontain it,โ if you will. My main purpose was NOT to make dreads, but to define a curl patternโฆ this sponge helps with that. Itโs so easy to use. I wake up in the morningโฆ do all my morning rituals, then I rub this in my hair, vigorously, for a few minutes, and Iโm good to go.<br /><br />I usually go to the barber to get my sides trimmed, and I leave the top. After I go, Iโll use this product right after and see how it does.<br /><br />As for now, I like this. Iโll continue to use it. Kudos for making a product very similar to the original.
