Panasonic Arc IV Nano Vortex Wet/Dry Rechargeable Shaver
đĨ Real Customer Reviews
Great Shaver!
I'd had a Braun for several years and the battery was getting weak, so I decided to get a new razor. After doing quite a bit of product comparisons, this seemed like a good model at a reasonable price.

I've been shaving with it for over a month now, and I must say that I'm impressed. I shave immediately after showering, and it shaves very close. It's almost as good as a regular cartridge razor, but without the nicks and pain.

Like so many others, this shaves my neck much better than my old razor. The blade is very sharp and the linear (flat) motor is very strong and fast. Clean-up is quick and easy. I had been hoping to go longer between recharging, I get about a week, but you can't have everything.

Pros:
Close shave
Quick and neat cleaning

Cons:
Battery charge lasts only about a week
The Best
The ES8243 without a doubt is the best electric razor I have ever used. This is my second panasonic, the first being the ES8095 which I purchased about 5 years ago and thought it was the best at the time. I will keep that one for a backup. The ES8243 in my opinion shaves as close as a blade with no irritation. I do not use it in the shower so I cannot comment on the wet shave capability. The only improvement would be to add an induction charger like the 8095. With that said, the charging unit is small so that helps. If your are looking for a non rotary electric razor you cannot go wrong with this one. One final comment is that I have cut my shaving time in half plus I get a closer shave.
Prepare to be Amazed!
I moved from wet blade shaving to electrics 8 years ago now. Shaving against the grain with a blade makes a real mess of my face and shaving only with the grain doesn't give me a brilliant result. I'd figured that technolgy marches on and that electrics would be better than they were when I'd first started shaving and I was right. I was pretty happy with the remington that I bought, but after a year or so I saw a Braun activator 8585 at half price in a local store and as at the time it was close to the top of the range, I bought it. That was a revelation to me. It shaved even better and the cleaning station left it refreshed again and again. 7 years later, the battery isn't holding charge and so I looked again. I was amazed to find 'shaving forums' on the web! You guys are nuts ;) but thanks for all your craziness and for sharing the tales of your hunts for the ultimate shave!

A lot of these shaving enthusiasts were raving about the new Panasonic Arc 4 Nano wet/dry and many thought that the cleaning station version just isn't necessary as this one can be cleaned easily with liquid soap under the tap (fawcet?)(yes, I'm english). So I bought this model (8423A) and it arrived today..... Ok you want to know what it's like, so I'll tell you,,,,

- It looks great!
- It charged in about 40 mins
- It shaved off 3 days of beard in about 7 mins (I was being careful bearing in mind its a new type of shaver on my skin).
- It's shaved me SO close that I'm absolutely Amazed.
- I have no irritation (the foils just don't seem to pick up my skin at all).
- I used it dry - can't wait to try it in the shower.
- It did miss a few particularly flat hairs on my neck, but I was able to get them with the trimmer and then shave over.
- I had a go at the cleaning routine - it's not difficult.

Technology continues to march on!

Whether you go for this one, or the cleaning station version, I'm sure that you will be delighted. This shaver is FANTASTIC!

Impressed after first use
After an exhaustive review of the various electric shavers on the marked, I decided on the Panasonic. Years ago I used a Norelco and was never completely happy, so I switched back to a blade. I wanted the convenience of being able to shave easier at the gym and camping. I particularly liked the concept of being able to use this shaver wet - in the shower even. It was a bit strange to fire up an electronic device while showering! This morning was my first time using the shaver. I used it with lather, and I must say that I am impressed. Is it as close as my blade? No, but all shavers suggest you give them thirty days for your beard to adjust. For the first time, it is a very close clean shave. If it truly gets better and better over next next 30 days, I think I will be completely satisfied. Bonus - it looks really cool and has an LED display, which every man loves! Pricing on Amazon is great, this shaver truly retails for $199 and you can pay that, if you desire.
Best electric shaver
I love the razor. I love Amazon even better because the digital display started doing weird things. At first Amazon said I should contact Panasonic because I bought the razor at the end of January. I said I don't want a refund, I would like an exchange. They put me on hold, came back on and had one shipped out next day air and emailed me a return UPS label.

I like the razor a lot, just wondering has anyone else experienced any issues with the digital readout. The counter started doing crazy things and the battery life would always read 90%. Then it would work ok, then do really weird stuff.
Better than average at MSRP, a great deal for $100 sale price
I've recently tried the following razors pretty much back to back in search of something that would give me the best bang for the buck.

*Braun 8985 - very good shave quality, no irritation, mimimal passes, never pulled hair, easy to clean, nice travel case, rediculous charging station / cleaning stand

*Norelco 8240 - poor shave quality, irritating, pulled tons of hair, easy to clean, quiet

*Braun 9585cc - excellent shave quality, no irritation minimal passes, only pulled once or twice in a month, easy to clean, very nice travel case, very high quality obvious everytwhere, expensive, loud, rediculous charge atation / cleaning station.

*Panasonic ES8243A - shave quality equal to Braun 8985 but just shy of Braun 9585, can be used wet (tried it once, no biggie), easy to clean, quieter than 9585, much less expensive then both Braun's mentioned when on sale, no irritation, minimal passes, simple charge cord, cheapo travel case, lcd tells you exactly what's up with battery.

Basically the high end Braun is like a loaded Mercedes and the Panasonic is like a loaded Camry. Both are very nice but the Braun has an edge in the "cache" factor and in it's superior hexagonal foil pattern. It seems to shave easily in all directions whereas the Panasonic has a less advanced circular hole foil pattern than seem to resist (drag ever so slightly) movement a little in different directions, particularly on the upper lip. However, the 4 foil Panasonic resulted in slightly fewer pass than the Brauns and the Pana felt a little better in my hand. The ability to shave in the shower may be the clencher for some folks as the Braun cannot do that at all. I tried it once and the shave was exceptionally smooth but the shave cream was hard to keep in place without a mirror, no biggie either way. I really like the 9585 and would have no qualms about keeping it. However, the Braun was not twice as good as the Pana and was not worth twice the price at the time of my purchase. I'd pay 20 or 30 more for the Braun due to it's warranty and the travel case but no more than that. I've used the pana for 1.5 months and am 95% statisfied with my purchase. If it had the Braun's more advance foil pattern it would be by far the greatest shave out there. As it is, I'd say its a tossup between the 9585 and the ES8243A with consideration to be given to how each will be used in light of each razors strengths and weaknesses. For me it was the Pana.
