Great toothbrush
This Panasonic EW-DL82-W toothbrush has less bells and whistles than other electric toothbrushes. However, from my experience with several other electric toothrbushes, I only use the basic setting and rarely bother with any of the other brush modes. So that should not be a deterrent, specially given that those other models are typically priced a little bit higher than this. If you use a Sonicare, the one thing that will throw you off with these Panasonic toothbrushes is that they appear to vibrate less. However, from my experience, I still feel like my teeth get the same level of cleaning afterwards.
Favorite Electric Toothbrush Yet
I have been using electric toothbrushes for years, so this review is comparing this electric toothbrush to the others I've used.

The thing I love most about this toothbrush is no splatter! I love how clean electric toothbrushes get my teeth, but they all splatter somewhat when you have to spit, and the last one I bought was the worst. My bathroom mirror looked dirtier than the kids' most of the time. But I have no issues with this toothbrush. The base with holder is larger than what I like, but the holder is easily removable to make the base smaller, not much bigger than the toothbrush base. This toothbrush is lighter and slimmer than my other electric toothbrushes. It charges for a long time. I took it on a 9 day trip and it stayed charged the whole time. According to the manual a full charge will last for 90 minutes, so two minutes a day, twice a day would be a whopping 22 days of usage before needing a recharge. It also seems to get my teeth even a little bit cleaner than my other electric toothbrushes. I'm about due for my next dentist's appointment, but after using this toothbrush my teeth almost have that just-polished feeling to them. I do not press hard at all, just let the toothbrush do its work as is advised with all electric toothbrushes. As the manual stated I might, I did feel a bit of a tickling sensation the first time or two I used it, but not since. I did not feel any of the weak ionic electric current in my hand, as the manual also stated is possible for some users.

The one thing I do not like is the timer mechanism. It doesn't show you the actual time brushed, just signals once every thirty seconds then twice every two minutes. A lot of times I am not paying that close of attention. With my old toothbrush I could just take a quick look at the timer to see the actual time, but with this one there is no way to know if I've gone over time or not long enough until I go another full two minutes. I wish at least it would buzz twice every thirty seconds once the two minutes has been reached.

Two things I don't like about this toothbrush are no actual timer and no battery indicator.
FANTASTIC for my receding gumline, and my teeth look and feel pretty darn good too (see review for important note)
*Important note* Amazon says they sent me a model EW-DL82-W (this toothbrush), but the toothbrush I got was [[ASIN:B00JTUOVAM model EW-DE92]]. I don't know what you'll get if you order from this page, but the DE92 is a BIG step up from the DL82. For starters, there's the silicone gum care brush. My brush also came with a point brush, which isn't something I need but would be useful if you can fit a brush between your teeth. And the DE92 has four settings: White, Soft, Sensitive, and Gumcare. The DL82 has only White and Soft.
*/note*

Skip to the last paragraph if this is way too long. There's lots of detail here.

Ok, no promises that this will work for everyone, but I've had receding gums for as long as I can remember. Even my dentist had no real solution--just use extra soft toothbrushes, he warned, and he always reminded me of the correct way to brush. And with every visit, my gums were just a little worse.

Then I got this and started using the silicone gum care brush once a day, per the instructions. And inside of a month, it is actually helping. Not only have my gums stopped receding but they're actually improving, and that's in spite of the fact that I don't floss nearly as regularly as I used to. (My bad.) My teeth used to be very sensitive to cold, but this is also improving. If this toothbrush did a lousy job on my teeth I'd still keep it just for the gum brush.

But it does a great job on my teeth, too.

This isn't my first sonic toothbrush. I've had three others; the last one was a Braun/Oral B. They really didn't do anything for me that a manual brush didn't do, and eventually I got tired of recharging them when there was no apparent benefit. For that reason I didn't have a lot of hope for this brush. Imagine my surprise.

Before I get into detail (200+ words later--can you tell I'm thrilled?) I should mention that buried in the four pages of warnings in the booklet, there's a "Caution: To prevent the risk of injury or damage to teeth and gum, do not use toothpaste that contains a high abrasive content, such as toothpaste for removing tar or for whitening." Even with regular toothpaste I still feel like I just walked out of the dentist's office, so I can see where a highly abrasive toothpaste might cause damage.

The detail:

When the toothbrush first arrived I figured that instead of the White setting I'd better try Soft first, but I immediately switched to Sensitive. It was just too uncomfortable at first. I'm now using Soft and I think I'll probably stay with that setting for good. This is an intense toothbrush, and my gums are wimps. The Soft setting is also recommended for tongue cleaning.

The Gum Care setting is a pulsing setting that should only be used with the silicone gum brush.

The main part of the toothbrush can be washed under running water. I rarely have to do this. It's pretty easy to keep the toothbrush handle clean while brushing, unlike the other sonic toothbrushes I've tried.

It helps that I don't have to use much toothpaste at all. I probably use less than half of what I used to use, and I still get a mouthful of foam. The easiest way I've found to apply toothpaste is to put a little on the brush, and with the brush still off I spread it evenly around my teeth. Then I start the brush.

All of the brushes should be used with a minimum of pressure. I sometimes forget and start crushing it against my teeth, but it's not necessary. Light pressure leaves my teeth feeling very clean.

Even though there's a timer that stops the brush for a second every 30 seconds, and twice at two minutes, I find I'm brushing for longer than that. For the first time I feel like I'm actually cleaning my back teeth, something I couldn't do well with any other brush, and I'm spending extra time on that. I'll probably cut back to two minutes when the novelty wears off or when the dental hygienist doesn't have to get out the jackhammer for my back teeth.

In addition to the vibrating brush, this toothbrush has "sonic vibrations" and "ionic power" that provides a "very weak electric current" if you hold the handle properly. This may be an amazing feature or it might be an annoying hum and a load of nonsense. The brush works really well for me, so I'm good with it either way.

Charging the toothbrush: It takes almost a full day. But I got over three weeks out of the first charge.

Replacement heads: I can't find any! It's not a problem yet, and if I can remember to be gentle I might be able to make this brush head last a while, but I'm going to need replacements eventually. Come on, Panasonic!

TL;DR summary: The EW-DE92 model toothbrush has done a great job of cleaning my teeth and helping my receding gumline. The strongest setting is way too strong for me, but the Soft setting is fine now that I'm used to it. For the first time I'm not dreading a visit to the dentist. It's slow to charge but the charge lasts a long time. Replacement brushes don't seem to be available yet, and if they don't appear soon the toothbrush won't work without them. I'm not sure what's up with Amazon's product pages, so if the four settings and three different brushes are important to you, you might want to buy [[ASIN:B00JTUOVAM the EW-DE92 model here]].
Provides fast yet effective results; ionic feature intriguing
Edit: Oct. 10, 2014
BEWARE there are NO replacement brushes available for this model (EW-DL82-W)! I searched everywhere and ended up calling the Panasonic Parts Department. A call center rep told me that they DO NOT have replacement brushes! Unbelievable! But she said Amazon had them (which I knew was not true because I'd searched it already). She said the replacement part ID was "WEW0929". I confirmed the ID and that there were no spaces, dashes etc. This part ID does not exist on Amazon, making this is an expensive, disposable toothbrush.

* * *
I've been testing the Panasonic "Sonic Vibration" Ionic toothbrush for about a month. What impressed me right away is the size of the unit... much smaller (about 30 percent) than my previous rechargeable toothbrush of another brand.

I was intrigued by the "ionic" feature, though didn't see it explained in any of the literature that came with the toothbrush. I researched the generic topic of ionic toothbrushes and learned that they emit a flow of positive ions that reverse the surface of the teeth from negative to positive polarity, pulling plaque towards the negatively charged toothbrush head.

I haven't been to the dentist yet for my 6-month cleaning but will be eager to see if I get any compliments on the low plaque levels. I'll update this review afterward.

In a nutshell...

Pros:
* Compact size; 30 percent smaller than the other 2 rechargeable toothbrushes I've used in the past few years
* Case is great for travel
* Ionic feature (in theory) removes more plaque
* Timer feature helps you learn the proper pace from start to finish
* Easy to use; elegantly designed
* The 4-brushing modes ensures the right speed for the desired effect
* Included gum-care brushes
* Brush is going strong after 1 month - no signs of it needing to be replaced

Cons:
* Designed (in my opinion) for one person - not really family friendly as claimed. It's sort of gross removing the brush (wet) and it takes a little effort to remove.
* Difficult to find (so far) replacement brushes

Overall this is the best electric toothbrush I've ever used. Two thumbs up!
Fresh From The Dentist Feel
As a long time Sonicare user, I've stuck to the brand due to the good experiences I've had with them. Any time I've had to go back to a regular tooth brush or a disposable electric toothbrush, it just wasn't the same. So, it was time go to back to a sonic toothbrush, so decided to give the Panasonic a try. I'm convinced that this is a worthy competitor in the sonic toothbrush market.

The first thing you notice after brushing your teeth is the fresh from the dentist office feeling. Aided with flossing, it works really well on plaque and also makes your teeth quite bright and sparkling.

The head is quite comfortable and seems durable. As of this review, I've not seen options for replacing the heads.

The only thing I would give a mild negative mark to would be the timer. It doesn't shut off but gives you reminders like every 30 seconds for like the first two minutes, which may indicate which side to brush for 30 seconds. After two minutes, it seems to do it every 2 minutes. Depending on your preferences, the 30 seconds per side work well.

I can highly recommend this toothbrush against other comparable brands. Quite surprised...
Light And gentle
Great great toothbrush. It is light weight, feels and looks of high quality.

I love how gentle and effective at cleaning your teeth. I like the white setting and how well
it cleans, the vibration is so gentle. It is quiet compare to Sonicare and it has a tongue cleaner which is a bonus in own.

I like that is taller and easier to handle. The light weight comes in handy when traveling and comes
with it own case.

Charging is about the same as any other toothbrush and lasts just a long too.

Only one head comes with it so in less than 3 month would be time for a new one. I wish the offer a super soft head.
The Way to Go for Rechargable Toothbrushes
I've owned Sonicare toothbrushes for over ten years. I even own the latest and greatest DiamondCare toothbrush now. I buy these expensive toothbrushes because my teeth stain terribly and I get terrible tartar. Only these toothbrushes can spare my teeth most of the harm.

I noted the following differences/similarities between the Sonicare and the Panasonic Sonic toothbrush:
1. Both have long battery life so the toothbrushes don't need to be recharged for days at a time.
2. Both reduce tartar and stain much, much more than standard toothbrushes.
3. Both have various settings on it--but honestly, I just use the regular setting each time.
4. The Panasonic Sonic toothbrush feels lighter than the Sonicare but I haven't weighed both separately to confirm this fact.
5. The Panasonic Sonic costs approximately $60 less than the Sonicare DiamondCare.

I gave the toothbrush 4 rather than 5 stars because I have yet to figure out how much it costs to replace the brush heads. I contacted Panasonic by phone and by email to find out details for the replacement brush heads. The Panasonic representative I spoke to didn't have an answer and the email response I received was similarly unhelpful. Clearly, I'm hoping that the brush heads will cost less to replace than those of the Sonicare. I replace my brush heads at least monthly, so their expense figures in considerable to the cost of the toothbrush. I'll update this post with information about the replacement brush heads once finally find information about them.
It's a great toothbrush! A little $$$ though...
Great sonic toothbrush, however, due to the cost, I cannot give it 5 stars.
Pros: This Panasonic toothbrush works excellent. Just as good as my previous Sonicare. It leaves my teeth feeling so clean and helps keep my gums healthy. The battery life is amazing, I have gone up to 5 days without charging. Several brushing modes. Great build quality.
Cons: Price, a equally good Sonicare costs about 1/2 of this Panasonic. Another issue are the brush heads. They also cost more than Sonicare heads and are not as common..

I think this is a great toothbrush, however I think the price should be lowered as the extra "features" are really unnecessary.
