Very good quality, but I ordered it for a christmas gift and when it came in the mail the plastic was ripped open on the inside and the metal was banging around.
There is much to like here, but there are some reservations
There is much to like here, but there are some reservations. Some reviewers suggested an instruction booklet, shave cream, and blades. This would appear to be a bit too much --- if you don't know how to shave, why are you buying this set. But, I do note that it is being marketed as for beginner shavers. It might be sensible to put in the description that blades and shave cream will have to be purchases separately. Amazon might even pick up some additional business.<br /><br />It is not easy to see the razor that comes with this set; it is a three piece closed bar razor. Schone is not a well known brand, and the little that is known of them usually revolves around an open comb Italian style razor, this is not it. Also, they keep describing the brush that comes with the kit as synthetic badger. There is really no such thing. This is a synthetic brush that is made to look like badger. There is no reason to confuse this issue.<br /><br />Well then, what is good here and why four stars. After these few quibbles, I found the set to be excellent. Both the razor and the shave brush have solid metal handles, which fit perfectly with the stand that comes with them. The razor is solid and mildly aggressive: it is reminiscent of the popular Edwin Jaeger DE89. Solid and heavy, with just the right blade exposure, it give a marvelous shave. And the shave brush works up a substantial lather with little effort. Synthetic brushes are not always good, this one is great. However, a new shaver might want a milder razor. Anyone who is an experienced shaver would love this set. In my opinion, the razor or the shave brush alone would easily be worth the whole price of this set. This is a great deal.
