Treat your face (or legs) to a classy shave
For quite a while i have wanted to experience an open comb razor, particularly since I have understood that they are more effective against multi-day growth. Sometimes i go four or five days, if not more, between shaves and, in general I prefer to use my butterfly razors because i can open, remove the blade, and clean them quicker than standard two and three piece DB razors. Also I have learned the hard way that one should not rush when unscrewing and reattaching the head pieces to the handle to avoid stripping the threads. So i approached my initial experience with the Shash open comb with more a little curiosity and anticipation. Well, i was not disappointed. It moves through the stubble with ease and a quick rinse in water removes the residue. I was pleasantly surprised with the ease and facility with which the razor travelled over my face. I must admit that I was very cautious the first time and even took precautions that I normally forego with other razors. I didnt spend much time on my chin and nose area which are my most problematic regions. For those I prefer to use smaller handled razors where I can have better control and access. But on those fairways which are a straight shoot downward to my chin bones, I was mowing the hair down like an Eastern European peasant harvesting grain. The razor also worked well on the straighaways from chin down to the neck. It should be admitted that I have yet to put the razor to the ultimate test of a week-long beard growth, but i do not anticipate any increased difficulties with the later. The open comb facilitates easy cleaning whether rinsing in a bowl or under the faucet. As for the razor itself, it appears to be well constructed. I would guess it is a product of Germany which augurs well for precision instruments. It is probably the longest handled razor i own yet it functions well. It is reputed to be made of brass and chrome which should guarantee long life. The handle is striated enough to preclude slippage even when wet. As a bonus it comes with three boxes of Astra blades (about 15 I believe) plus an alum stick and pre-shave oil. I can't vouch for the oil since I don't normally use it bit I can't see how it would hurt. And the entire ensemble is tidely packaged in a neat and attractive box. Certainly a fine addition to one's own toiletries collection and definitely something to consider for the upcomung gift season. Recommended.
