Great for maintaining those guitar pickin' fingernails
OK - so I'm a fingerstyle guitar player (James Taylor / Chet Atkins wannabe). Fingernail care is an annoying part of the business, I'm afraid. And unfortunately, I have a nail that splits often. Silk reinforcements with resin and activator has been a lifesaver for maintaining nails, and this sanding block is part of the process. I use a diamond file to keep the fingernail ends shaped and the sanding block makes the finished ends smooth and snag free. Snagging is NOT good for finger picking guitar! I'm still learning to use it, but it also does a great job of smoothing the nail before applying silk and resin on the split nail and Sally Hanson's triple hard titanium polish on the rest of my nails. Yeah, I get the other guys ribbing me over my shiny nails - which is pretty obvious when they see both hands together - only the right hand gets the fussing. But then they hear me play and the ribbing stops. My only complaint about this would be useful life - it seems to wear down rather quickly. But I'm probably not being fair - that diamond nail file lasts forever - can't expect a soft foam sanding block to last that long.
Best of both worlds
I do not use these for my nails, but for the crafty clients these work great for sanding and putting a brushed finish on the copper cuff bracelets that I make. If you happen to damage a nail when you are working with you metals you can repair your nail. Now this is what I call a WIN WIN.
The file to end most files
Yep, need a fine grit sanding block to help keep my nails buffed and shiny when not wearing nail polish. Love this block because it will sand down the sides of the nail where nail files are usually pretty awkward to use.
