Time Travel Into A Quality Shave
For 340 years, men have used the straight razor as a principal means of manual shaving. Iโve used one for 14 years employing replaceable blades but remember the feeling of a barber shave with a permanent blade straight razor that had been properly stropped; the kind of blade used since 1680 to separate a man from his facial hair. Iโve yearned for the vintage experience of stropping my own stainless steel blade and applying metal to beard. Today, I received this handmade straight razor, stropped it just a bit, and had a longed for experience of truly vintage shaving that left my face smooth as a river rock. Iโm elated! So many reviews are written by folks with redwood sized chips on their shoulders. I ignored them and ordered this razor anyway. I could not be more pleased with this purchase. It was shave ready. My stropping exercise was more just to have the full experience. One review said there was no room for his finger between the handle and blade. I have large hands and, when the razor is held correctly, there is ample room for my finger. The weight and balance is excellent and it is simple to stabilize it for a close yet lacerationless shave. This razor gets five stars across the board with the exception of the โfor beginnersโ category. HELLOOO! STRAIGHT RAZOR!!! This is a serious piece of sharpened 440 stainless steel! The only good straight razor for beginners is made of rubber!! If youโre ready for a vintage shaving experience at a great price, youโve arrived!
Nice quality but couldn't get it razor sharp
I'm giving it 4 stars because the quality is nice on both items, but the hair on my neck is so thick that this just wasn't sharp enough to really cut clean. I watched a couple YouTube videos and just couldn't get this blade honed to a sharp enough edge to shave safely. Cut my neck up pretty good, again could be my fault. I've used these before but with the removable razor blade and had no issues. Just trying new shaving options to avoid buying anti-male gellett.
