Fit 80D well, but potentially beware of static/dust attraction

I bought this for a new (refurb) 80D that I just got a little while ago. That 80D was factory refurbed and it, and the sensor, was very clean when I got. I put this case on (a black one) the camera almost the same day that I got the camera, and I actually didn't have much time to use it over the next couple of weeks, but then, one day I was out trying to do some shooting of planes and BIF. When I looked at the images, I noticed a large piece of dust on the image (which turned out to be on the sensor). Looking back at some test images I made when I first got the camera, they were clean. Anyway, so I used a blower and was able to get rid of the large dust, but then I did a white wall shot to check the sensor and I was SHOCKED that there was a lot of dust on the sensor. What was weird is most of the dust looked like it was around the perimeter of the sensor. I used a sensor dust brush and that got rid of some of the dust, but I eventually had to send the camera to the Canon service center to get it cleaned off.

To be clear/honest, I am not 100% sure about this, but I was trying to figure out how that happened and I am guessing/theorizing that maybe the case, which is rubber, might have been attracting dust. The case is very close around the base of the lens mount, so I am thinking that, maybe, there was dust attracted around the lens mount, and when I unmounted the lens (which I did once or twice and always with the camera pointed downward), some dust would get onto the sensor.

Mind you, I think this case does provide some protection for the body, so that part is ok.
